Death Penalty Vote
#31
RE: Death Penalty Vote
Even if they are guilty of something terrible, like murder or rape, it is not alright to take a life if they are incarcerated.

Their lives are better served as case studies, so we can learn from them and perhaps prevent some similar crimes in the future. You cannot question the dead.
This alone is reason enough to keep them alive, even if you don't buy the immorality of the state committing murder with your tax dollars.

RE: Death Penalty Vote
This is how fucked up capital punishment is, as practiced in this country, today.

Some of you may remember an election cycle not too long ago, where a certain governor from a certain state, let's call him "Yosemite Sam".....made a bid for the presidency in the same term as having refused to grant a stay of sentence for a man who's conviction was found to be, in the exact words of federal investigators..."based upon witchcraft".

Further, the witch in question who provided this evidence, a career arson "specialist" with mounds of convictions attributed to his  expert opinion and testimony, was not only let loose, but brought up on federal charges for what he had done, in relation to this case and many others..and now rots...himself...in a federal prison.

The call was made, the request was denied, and the lever was pulled.  The deceased's final words were the repeated assertion of his innocence....something he had been asserting for more than a decade, in prison.  When questioned about this,Yosimite Sam said...in many more words, that the guy was a fucking sleazeball anyway.

Why is this story relevant as more than a demonstration of the fucked up state of our system...?  Because this was -not- the reason he lost his election bid.  This was known, no one gives a shit....we silently agree.  He was a sleazeball.  Bzzzzzzzzzt
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. One of the strongest arguments. Forensic psychology would never have gotten as far if they hadn't toured the jails to interview as many serial offenders as possible in the 80ies.

Eh if multiple people saw someone kill a family in cold blood yes I think that person should die. I really don't care if yall think me a monster. Why should those lives end when they were innocent and he gets three meals a day, a roof over his head, and access to bettering himself through school and working while locked up? Who cares if he is locked up for life when he still has a life? The family members of those he killed will never get back their loved ones and sitting in a cell is no compensation for lives lost.

I think the U.S. is a little creepy with all the methods it allows. Hanging and firing squad, yes, but also electric chair, gas chamber, and predominately lethal injection nowadays. The simplest way would be a single bullet to the head, as in:

Because the US is the only one to use those? Dodgy

I'm pretty sure hanging and firing squad was the go to for just about everyone at one point.

That's why I said, "Hanging and firing squad, yes, but also...".

Sorry if I'm confusing.

I don't think you are a monster. I just disagree with you. Killing someone doesn't bring their victims back. It just brings emotional satisfaction.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

What the fuck is wrong with those people? I'm surprised the condemned aren't strapped to rockets and blown up in low orbit or forced to run a gantlet of oncoming trains.

A simple collar with two nubs that block the carotid arteries is cheap, effective, humane and mess-less. Person passes out and never wakes up. Simple dimple.

One of the select few western countries still having the death penalty. The other ones would be Japan, and I'm not even sure if I would call Singapore or Thailand western.
