One should hope, at least.

Yes, you should hope. There seems to be little talk of it here. Lot's of gloom and doom.

How about don't panic? Not a damn thing has happened yet except for the end of a disappointing and divisive election.

I have to agree.

This thread sort of shows why a lot of people on here aren't really as liberal as they make out. From threads wishing death/violence on people they don't like to wishing an entire country to 'burn'? When did the forum turn into a place like this?

Perhaps I missed the memo but that doesn't seem very liberal, tolerant or progressive. Actually seems like a pretty facist thing to dream of.

Anyway, with my narrower focus, I wan't to minimize contact with others. I won't be posting here for awhile.

I imagine you slinking into a cabin in the woods with tins of beans and an assault rifle. Tell me I'm right!

Anyhoo byee for a bit.

I would wish you good luck, but you've been nothing but an asshole to me. Just try not to burn down your country because the election didn't go your way. Rolleyes

Perhaps not respect, but not rioting and fear mongering might be the more adult thing to do in this situation. You don't have to respect him, but you have to respect the result of the democratic election.

You don't have to give anyone a chance if everything they stand for goes totally against your values. What they do or don't do once in power is anyone's guess, true. But it's one of the foundations of democracy to not rally behind a leader just because they got (a majority?) of the votes. To rally behind someone just because they manage to park their ass at the seat of government is the hallmark of authoritarian regimes.

That's not to say, anyone should go out and riot, but use all the instruments any given constitution provides to voice disagreement and to work towards a better future.

I agree that talk of burning it down is over the top. But neither do I think joining in a chorus of Kumbaya should be compulsory. People are entitled to time to process the shock, repulsion and horror. But ideally, find a way to express your emotions without inciting criminality.

In addition it is entirely appropriate to engage politically to push for the political action one would like to see and give voice to dissent. There is a role for the opposition. It needn't be as irresponsible as the republicans were during Obama's administration, but it is entirely proper to criticize bad policy.

The way the republicunts gave Obama a chance?  Fuck that.  Just watching the Orange Turd's cabinet picks tells me the train wreck is coming.

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I read the "America can burn" comment as hyperbole, not literal desire.

I have no respect for Trump at all, and just because he won the election, that doesn't mean I should scrounge around for some spare respect for him.
