sectarianism in atheism

sectarianism in atheism
Is atheism just as sectarian as some religions? There seems to be a few different camps out there from people who believe a more "pure" atheism, who do not believe in any "spirituality" to others who are "spiritual but not religious".

Are there different sects within atheism and do some people believe their version of atheism to be "true" while another version of atheism is "false"? Is there an attitude or principle that would help avoid the formation of sectarianism?

Of course there is. Wouldn't be a human belief (or disbelief) if at least some people in it weren't obsessed with labels and gatekeeping. But theres certainly nothing quite as "official" as there is with Christianity or Judaism.

"Sectarian" refers to a SECTION of a population, and that can be a religions OR political SECT or a combo of both.

"Secular" is neither religious or political, but the concept that government shall not play favorite, but remain neutral, neither for or against.

I mean, there can't be sectarianism if there aren't sects.  There are different self-identified groups of people that happen to be atheists, but any difference in viewpoint on any given topic isn't a tenet or value of atheism.

There aren't any "versions" of atheism.  Atheism is simply the stance that "there is a god(s)" has not met its burden of proof.  You can be a socialist hippy granola muncher and not believe in god, and you can be an ultra-libertarian corporatist and not believe in god.  You can believe in ghosts and chakra and healing crystals and all sorts of "spiritual" stuff and still be an atheist.

Atheism doesn't drive values or beliefs because it doesn't have any content to serve as a foundation of a worldview.  Things like humanism, secularism, etc might, but "atheism" as a thing in itself does not. it's just a response to a claim.

I will echo @FatAndFaithless and say that the only thing atheists have going for them is a statement of unbelief in supernatural claims. Everything after that is up for grabs.

However there are many labels for atheists and their sub-groups, such as agnostic atheist, gnostic atheist, anti-theist, ignostic and apostate. Probably more too.

Social-politically and ideologically atheists are as diverse as any other collection of diverse groups.

I would not say atheists are "as sectarian as some religions".When is the last time you heard of an agnostic driving a car bomb into a crowded antitheist street fair?

Atheism is a disbelief in gods it says nothing about general supernatural beliefs

Why do you call yourself an atheist when you clearly have no fucking idea what the word means?

But then you probably do. Idiot troll.
