Nobody talks about the Amazons

Nobody talks about the Amazons
Sort of speak. Burn it down and then ask questions? Ya know, the Brazilian president seems to have inhaled a lot of lead and guess what? Elected by evangelicals, praised the dictatorship (in portugal, political suicide), but IMO, trying to be friends with trump.

I've heard the president is allowing the rainforest to be burned. I really don't know why. It's one of the most famous places on Earth. I'm not even sure if Brazil has anything cool there, besides the forest, and they're burning it down. Although I think there's a coastal vacation spot there too.

They are, or were, burning it to make space for farms.

Farmland is nice and all, but it shouldn't come before something like the rainforest.

They’ll keep burning it down so long as it makes better financial sense to do so.

I wouldn’t be completely surprised to find it burnt down to single digits in my lifetime.

Fair point.  We die quicker from lack of air than from lack of food.

We’re more likely, I think, to plant managed forests and lean more heavily on tech than to save the rainforest.

Like other issues of its magnitude, it’s more a symptom than a problem. The problem itself being much more difficult than putting out fires and creating conservation easements.

Poor global land use and planning.

Bah bah bah to accept planning for the good of all is socialism.  Capitalism requires the strong to shaft the weak until they in turn are eventually consumed.

I prefer to think of capitalism in less suicide pact-ey terms. Dead men aren’t rich, they’re dead.
