Raising the minimum wage won't help

RE: Raising the minimum wage won't help
And for those who are still skeptical of the idea of a living wage, here’s Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

[Image: 792px-Maslow%27s_Hierarchy_of_Needs2.svg.png]

People who advocate for a living wage are asking for enough money to cover the lowest level of the pyramid (the red one). Maybe some would argue up to part the second lowest tier (orange, specifically financial security), but that first tier, covering the basic physiological needs of humans, is what we’re asking to be covered. Not necessarily $70k per year (unless, of course, the cost of living gets that high), just enough to keep a roof over their heads that isn’t made of cardboard or food that they didn’t have to steal from a dumpster.

You may argue that some jobs don’t deserve that because they’re meant to be done by teens who are still living with their parents, but that premise simply doesn’t apply anymore.

He keeps missing that point.

And if I hear "starter job" one more time, I am going to call KIM JONG UN and tell him to nuke the next MFer who uses that.

Who the hell does OLB think works at the retail or fast food joints or collects his garbage when the kids are in HS or college?

The truth is most people at that level are NOT mere teens or college students working on spring break or during the summer. The majority of those jobs are held by people SUPPORTING FAMILIES.

OLB, I am 54, I have worked retail and food service and delivery all my life. I can tell you that there ARE people in their late 20s, 30s. 40s and 50s and even 60s, that I have worked with in all those years. There is no such thing as a "starter job", there are just jobs.

Remember your bullshit condescension the next time you see an old clerk at Walmart, or middle age order taker at McDonalds, or a middle age waiter/waitress at your favorite restaurant.
So you are a self admitted unmotivated schlub - and you think you can tell a.retired guy who could have a job by the end of the week that makes triple what you made in your best year - what the score is?

Yeah...

Ok.

So, I take it you don’t recognize a difference between just having enough money to not starve or keep a roof over your head and being rich. No wonder you’re so out of touch with the economic realities of today.

You just don't understand how money works.

In your reality - they find out how much you make - then price your dinner accordingly.....

If you have no money - you get it free.

If you make a million a year - a hamburger will cost $10,000.

Sure. - that system will work....

More like, in my preferred reality, they find out how much it costs to keep a roof over your heads and food in your stomachs and base your minimum wages on that. Because, frankly, there’s very little economic reason America can’t do that, and no moral reason we shouldn’t do it if we can.

No job in human history should ever be deemed for a certain age. There are only jobs.

You seem to think  whatever guilt motivates you is capable of changing reality.

Nope.

Make employees too expensive and employers will find a way to eliminate employees.

You may think the world is a social experiment - but businessmen think it's about making money - not providing you with "a living wage".
