Artemis 2 successfully accomplished their translunar injection burn several hours ago that sent them on their way. This is the first time in over 53 years that humans have left Earth orbit. The time gap is not unprecedented. It was over 80 years between the first landing at Antarctica and the establishments of a base there.
I understand that this is an atheist forum, not a space geek forum. Still, there has to be others here who feel like I do. I feel like this is a historical event that I'm grateful to have lived to see. I was 9-years-old the first time people orbited the moon in Apollo 8. Now we are finally going back to stay. I just wished it had happened before I was in my twilight years.
I'm kind of *meh* about the whole thing.
