Hehehe, gotta start blasting the forums with gardening posts, it's just that time of the year. To all of the gardeners out there, have you ever considered writing an IPM Plan (Integrated Pest Management), or do you already have a system that could be closely called IPM? IPM is standard practice for large farms, and even though the standard practices for large farms are often incompatible with the home garden, this is not one of those occasions. Large producers have a buffer against pests that we do not, unbelievably large numbers of plants. To the home gardener, the loss of one tomato vine can translate to a 50-100% loss. How many times have you scrambled to the garden center to put out a fire, terrified that you're biggest yielding cultivar has already been damaged beyond all repair? IPM is the answer!
What are the common pests in your area, do you plant a large number of one family of plants susceptible to the same diseases or prone to the same pests? How much do you know about these pests and diseases? Have you had trouble with disease or pests in the past? Let's geek out about it!
