Ok I was born into an incredibly religious family. My father's side is Catholic and my mother's side is half Catholic and half Christian. For nine years I was in a private Christian school and was (and still am :S) very sheltered. I didn't meet anyone who wasn't Christian/ Catholic until I entered high school.
When I was younger I was bullied very badly and have memory loss because of it. (Call it amnesia I guess, IDK that's what I call it to make it easier to explain) Anyways, so I don't really remember myself back when I was very religious. In about the sixth or seventh grade I began to question my religion. It began as a few stray thoughts in my daydreams, but it eventually developed into something huge. By the eighth grade I had pretty much lost all faith in God, but I didn't say anything to anyone, because of the school I went to and many other factors. I began to be depressed which worried my mother, but I kept quiet.
I transferred schools when I entered high school, because my parents didn't like the fact that the school was pushing Bible College on us. I was terrified to go which didn't help the whole me being a recluse at the time. For about my first month there, I was pretty lonely, I eventually made friends and kept quiet about my beliefs. When they asked, I just said I was Christian because my cousin and later little sister also went to the school and I couldn't have them know.
This year came along, I hadn't told anyone about my atheism and it had been about three years since I made up my mind about my beliefs. I opened up and was enjoying myself. I became close friends with a classmate. He is a very open atheist and helped me along. I didn't tell him about my beliefs for the majority of first semester, because I was afraid. As I got to know him, I found out that he was the only atheist in his family as well. I believe it was about October or November when I told him about my beliefs. We talked about it a lot in the coming months. Then in March I finally decided to tell my parents. he gave me advice and encouraged me, which I am so grateful for. So on March 6 I told my parents about my atheism. My father took it great and didn't really care, but my mother ... well let's just say she was another story.
So yeah that's my story. Can't wait to talk to you all on this site
