We don't know. It may not even be a coherent question (if spacetime was a product of the big bang, then there is no "before" according to our understanding of causality).
Nothing is known about the state of the universe before one Planck unit of time (an infinitesimal fraction of a second), and it's entirely possible nothing can be known about it. Everything prior to that point is speculative.
