Also: are you oversize or the car? Tongue

The oversize refers to a truck with a load that is wide, high, heavy or long or any combination of the load. You have seen them with flashing amber lights on the truck's cab and on the back end of the trailer.

Neither myself nor the car I drove were oversize although some people may have considered me to be somewhat oversize.

You have seen one or two trucks with signs on the front bumper and at the rear of the trailer with "OVERSIZE LOAD, WIDE LOAD or sometimes LONG LOAD". Usually leading and/or following will be a car or pickup with flashing amber lights on the roof.

These cars (sometimes pickups) are called pilot cars and sometimes escorts. They are there to guide the truck and for warning to the general public. They also help the driver of the oversize load avoid potential possible troubles ahead and behind. Their job is the protect the load from damage, the same for the roadways and private property.

That is the theory but in reality things get a little sticky out in the real world.
