I think obscure is kind of subjective. I'll say that I listen to a lot of community or college radio, like KEXP or WMNF . KEXP has many hours of a general "indie mix". Sometimes it's stuff that seems more commercial, and sometimes it seems way offbeat but still with semi-mainstream sensibilities. WMNF has a lot of blues, southern music, and even a great Jewish music show.
