Weird because all of the ones I've ever seen, form off Africa and come this way. Thanks for the education.
Those don't always form off the coast, but the weather systems that became hurricanes form in the Atlantic, often off the coast of Africa. They don't always become hurricanes right away, some take the last step much closer to the Americas. A TS (tropical storm) can die out without achieving hurricane status, and most of them do.
