I’m on his side as well - I support freedom of religion (probably more than you do). But religion being a scam has nothing to do with the article. No, he should not have been arrested for criticizing religion, but - again - that’s not the point of the article.
Let’s try an analogy. Suppose I believe that the banking system is a fraud. I know it is illegal to rob a bank, but I do so anyway. Is my arrest for bank robbery a ‘scam’?

It's a law. He broke that law.
Can you really not understand something that simple?
If you agree with the law or not doesn't matter if it's on the books in that place. The fact that it isn't a law here, yet, doesn't mean it's not a law in other countries and there are penalties for breaking the law.
