Yeah, here in California I had to register my .22 rifle so that I could get ammo for it, and either paid for a background check ($1 per each visit after a $19 first time) or get a real ID (which I did) to buy ammunition for it. I bought that rifle in '02 but when the system was legislated for electronic tracking, nobody took all the paper forms and put them in the system. So, most legitimately purchased firearms are not in the database. Stupid of a high order. And all the paper I've killed!
