The offense is allowed to have multiple players in movement at the same time and they are allowed to run toward the LOS, get a "running start", if you will. 12 players on the field vs 11. All of these rules are an advantage to the offense that probably makes up the difference.
Rugby and Australian Rules Football are confounding to me. I've watched a lot of games but never get a good sense of the flow. And how those guys survive a single game wearing nothing but shorts and a t-shirt is mind blowing.
But at least the name of the sport makes more sense because the foot touching the ball is actually a significant part of the game.
It evens out, I suppose - gridiron football will always remain a mystery to me.
