It seems like a cynical, shallow attempt to please a whole bunch of people, female voters, conservatives etc. If Palin had been at all known before it might have helped but she is a complete nobody come from nowhere.

Like you I'm not American and I agree with all of your comments except your conclusion ... I think it will help him because, as Sam Harris says, the ordinary American voter loves to vote for people just like themselves rather than those who have the skills to do the job.

A fundy (one who genuinely appears to believe that America's soldiers are on a "mission from god") in charge of the most technologically advanced military nation in the world is a very, very scary idea.
