Probably for the best. Tbh I've found MMA far superior to the more traditional martial arts.
When I actually got into a real fight and the guy started grabbing me and getting up close I didn't know what to do. Tae Kwon Do for instance is good for kicking people in the head but when they are on top of you like a bear it doesn't really help much.
It makes more sense to me to do MMA because I find it more helpful for real world self defence.

At the TKD school I train at, they've added knife defense and grappling techniques to the training program starting at the intermediate level.
In a real self-defense situation, not having a lot of tools at your disposal will get you owned. I know that I can land a devastating kick on just about anyone (say goodbye to your knee, bro) - IF I can maintain enough separation, which ain't likely to happen in a real fight.
