He's glad it wasn't his Solid State Drive (SSD, a new, better form of storage for a computer) because he probably stores his computer's Operating System (the thing that lets it run) on there, so that breaking would've been a massive pain in the arse. SSD's are often used as a sort of secondary storage in tandem with the more old-fashioned Hard Drives. SSD's generally store less, but are much faster, which makes them ideal for making the PC start up quicker.
Thanks, to me SSD only stands for Social Security Disability.
