Second: I don't know if more difficult, but I have an observation. I used to have a friend who was soooo much better looking than me. She's taller, thinner, and has a "babe" thing going for her. She's just model material, really. We were hanging out one day and she made an observation. She was talking about a dude that had tried to date me in the last few weeks and said something like,"I don't get it. There's cute Ivy, then there's me. Why do men go for cute when they can get hot?" No joke. She said that. Lol! It's not the fact that she's hot that makes her undesirable, it's the "stud" thing. Being a bitch. That kills it. You can be hawt as fuck and be undesirable. You can be average, but very attractive. It's the way you carry yourself that will determine how people feel towards you. Everybody looks at a hot person with lust, but when it comes to a romantic relationship as you say, there's more to it.
Now... if you can be hawt as fuck, have all that swag, and charisma... dang.
I've seen many a gal go from hot to fugly in three-point-eight words. They (and the analogous guys, no doubt) seem to spend their time on looking great rather than being great.
Me, I'm no great shakes, average looks, thin build -- my best qualities aren't really visible to the quick glance-- but I have something no other guy in the world has: me. That doesn't turn the trick with most gals, but the ones who are able to see, well, that is something I find attractive, because she's shown that she's not willing to settle for first impressions, and digs a little deeper.
And yeah, I'm a swaggy mofo, in my own inimitable way.
