Current issue of Scientific American has a discouraging article on radiation effects on the brain. The implication being long duration space flight may not be feasible due to brain damage from cosmic radiation.
Might be another reply to Fermi as to why they ain't here, interstellar flight isn't feasible for organic brains. Even long flights around the solar system might be iffy at best.
