She had a bit of a setback today but that is to be expected I suppose.

Myself, I am holding steady at 309.5 +/- 1.5.  Just maintaining until I get labs done and get referred to the bariatric specialist.  It's more certain that I will get a referral if I stay where I'm at, practically a sure thing that I'll meet the requirements.   I'm hoping to get the same surgeon, who I am going to request.

I could be able to be ready to schedule the surgery as early as October if I do my part - I'll have to lose 5% of my body weight to clear the most difficult hurdle.  It has to be inside of six months.

I can do that.  I can lose that much in 2-3 months, easy.  I was 12 pounds heavier 2 months ago and nearly 20 heavier 3 month.  I haven't even been really teying since our wedding day on 4/20.

I can lose weight.over 6-10 month time periods, it's just proven easy to put back on even faster.  I don't have the specifics handy but contrary to conventional wisdom, the science we do have on the matter suggests that for the very overweight, dieting and exercise don't have a great success rate (established in blind studies).

That's why I want the surgery.  Between that and things I have already done I can add another 10-20 years to my life.   I'm 50.  I'm not crazy about surgery, particularly those with very lengthy recovery times, but I've has two wake-up calls already and I'm aware the clock is ticking.

Getting to a normal weight should help mitigate most of my pain.  My joints are stressed, I have peripheral neuropathy but surprisingly I am not diabetic my ankles are perpetually painful, I have plantar fasciaitis in both feet but the right eclipses the left so much I barely notice the left.  The best joint in my legs is the one I had fixed from bicycle accident. My back isn't so great either. I'm unable to do much in the way of exercise for various reasons not under my control.

If I don't lose the weight, I'll likely end up in a wheelchair. That outcome is incompatible with my goals for the remainder of life. I don't have time to fuck around any longer.

I just needed to vent and remind myself why I need to do this in spite of my phobia of medical procedures. (Seriously. I am not allowed to be in the room any longer when they give my dog a shot or draw blood.)

Thanks to anyone who actually took the time to read that wall of text.
