I just want to point out that I see a lot of "the forum has devolved," "it used to be more civil here," etc. I don't think that's entirely accurate for two reasons. 1. It has never been completely civil here or anywhere else that isn't overly modded on the Internet. Unless you're hanging out in the literal circle jerk that is Area 69 all the time, there have always been acrimonious discussions. 2. I think the devolving of political discussions into outright arguments on this forum is reflective of what's happening in the world, not something that's wrong with the forum. Everything I see here is happening everywhere, every single day. That said, I do agree that irrational being the way of the world is getting tiresome.
I'm not so much against the rule change as I am against too many rules. I hope it works out without stopping some of the more interesting threads that are by necessity vitriolic.
