I can remember watching H.R. Pufnstuf out of curiosity, but I think it was just the style that made it bizarre. They at least had a structure that made sense, unlike the Zobooland shorts.
Also, even in this climate, where a political candidate can talk about smoking a shitton of pot and have the scandal be that she lied about being such a stoner, the Krofts still deny doing all those drugs. Hell, they apparently even fired a crew member for showing up to work stoned. Though apparently the name Pufnstuf was actually a reference to smoking weed, Marty Kroft said "that was just a prank to see if they could get them past clueless NBC executives"
So... Drug cultural appropriation?
