I see recipes as a starting point, but I rarely follow one, except when baking. Pinch of this, dash of that. Recipes are more of a guideline as to how someone else might prepare the dish. Consequently, the same dish never comes out exactly the same, and that's all right, just so long as it's good, and you can make some damn fine food in a Crockpot or Instant Pot.
Though I have to say, I've practically ditched the former for the latter - I'm into one pot cooking and you can't brown meat in a crock pot, and a crock pot can't make scratch made stew in 30 minutes cook time.
