My ex-brother in law lived in the Seattle area. Years ago - auto insurance was not manditory. But - as a resonably responsible guy - as an independent home repair contractor - he carried liability insurance on his work truck (lorry). It cost just over $100 a year.
Then - the insurance lobby got manditory auto insurance laws passed - PROMISING lower costs for everyone.
Same truck was now over $2000 a year.
When I said ‘dead cheap’ I was referring to here. For both vehicles, we pay a little over $100/month for $15000 property damage on each car (that’s about $65 and $9000 US, respectively).
