I can't imagine not having a nice bed, hot showers and my own space/bathroom etc. unless I had to go without them.

Well, we have all of those things - queen bed, hot shower, bathroom, etc. An abundance of space we don't have.

It's not out of necessity in the sense of having no other options. We needed a place to live temporarily. We prioritized preserving savings.
