I find this a common theme, the idea that belief about afterlives somehow affects the reality of them. More than that, it’s as if it’s being suggested that reality will split in half to accommodate both beliefs at once. People who believe in afterlives carry on living, because they believed in them; and the rest of us don’t, because we didn’t. That’s a very weird principle that I don't think anyone would apply in any other situation.
The only way this could reasonably work is if there’s some afterlife-granting genie whose sole criteria is the belief in said afterlife. Well, sure. You can come up with a convoluted scenario for anything.
