The only requirement to converse in any subject is a brain not a PhD. If you're not interested in these conversations, at the very least let those that are continue to participate.
If you'd like, I'll forward you the PDFs for my university's biology and genetics textbooks. I look forward to hearing from you when you feel more qualified.
Is that the best you got? Boring?
An expert in the field is much better to explain the field in question, than a very intelligent person with no expertise in the subject.
I have pretty advanced knowledge of routers and switches, and networking in general. It is what I do for a living, and have trained for it. Why would I expect a non brain dead person to understand a fraction of what I know? No matter how much expertise they have in other subjects?
The problem is, that humans live our lives by inference and induction, and it almost always works. After all, today is very similar to yesterday, so our inferences tend to consistently work. Until they don't. We are so enthralled with our abilities, that we try to continue to use inference and induction in areas where it does not work. Like physics, for example.
And by the way, I was a bio major many years ago, before I switched to electronics and computer sci. So, I can remember a bit.
And of course I am 'interested in these conversations', that's why I am here.
Indeed.
I have found that if one stands up and offers the console to one of those sneering persons who thinks that one is over-complicating matters to pad one's income, they quickly back off. "You think you know better than me how to sort your problem? Then why did you call me? You go ahead and fix it since you apparently know more than me."
Much Harumphing ensues.
