Some of the most corrupt and evil people in the world are those who claim guidance from their god, and they use their religion to control the masses, so they can continue to do corrupt and evil things. Religion isn't needed.

As far as Soleimani goes, it feels like this administration is the villain of a story that kills someone who benefited them because he "outlived his usefulness".
