The definition of what a god is doesn't depend on any individual god believers strongly held opinion that the other gods aren't gods, or that their gods are the only gods whose attributes define the set.
If a person claimed that their god was a waffle, it would be perfectly appropriate to point out that it was a waffle, and not a god. That would be more like a totem or idol.
The trouble with your use of the analogy, above, is that god believers are not god professionals.
