Yet another member of the tragic "27 club".. I still think she's best white blues singer I've ever heard-
---and that Anita O'Day was the best white Jazz zinger of her generation . (1919-2006)
A sample of Anita at her peak; 1958 Newport Jazz Festival.

Awesome track, dude. You have good taste in jazz; and that video was a time capsule.
I love me some Janis. I discovered "San Francisco Bay Blues" on a cassette tape that one of my buddies got for free when he bought a truck. (The tape was found in the cassette player, and he didn't want it. So I snatched it up and listened to it until it wore out.) It had one of her earlier "raw" live performances that I couldn't find anywhere else until the magic of youtube.
Here are some songs from this performance:

If you haven't heard either of these, I may be able to hook you up with more Janis you haven't heard yet.
You like Rosetta Tharpe at all?

Thanks for all that. I've saved Janis. Stunned that I had never heard of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She's terrific! I've downloaded a couple of her songs, plus a documentary " Sister Rosetta Tharpe; the God Mother of Rock'n' Roll"
To return the favour, just in case you haven't seen it; "The Women Of Rockabilly". Ashamed to say, it didn't strike me as odd watching it, that all the women are white.
