I am as white as they come. Not offensive to me.

If someone is racist to you for being white then you should punch them in the fucking face.

Nothing wrong with that.

You may get a bit of backlash for it though.

Such as?

(December 19, 2016 at 11:17 am)Loading Please Wait Wrote: 4.) Believe in God

Not offensive to me just don't force your beliefs on everyone else.

There's nothing wrong with loving your country.

But yet again there is nothing wrong with criticising the shitty decisions that your country makes either. A bit of patriotism is good just don't take it too far.

It is in functional societies.

Tempted to post a pic of the lobster I've got in the freezer that I bought with welfare money, just to make LPW's head assplode.

(December 24, 2016 at 5:25 pm)Loading Please Wait Wrote: Life is not fair! It shouldn't be the governments job to make everyone equal.

It's not about making everyone equal, it's about providing a much-needed service for society, in order to reduce the overall suffering of that society. Moreover, the entire point of government making laws is to protect its citizens and make life fairer. You can reduce almost every basic law down to an action which is inherently unfair towards someone or society in general if it were not illegal.

Quote:It should be an individuals responsibility to make something out of their life.

I agree, but making something out of your life has nothing to do with healthcare. Success and health don't correlate in the way you think. A poor person can be very healthy and rarely need a doctor, whilst a rich successful businessman might have some hereditary illness, or develop an illness later in life.

Quote:If you have a shitty job, that's not the governments fault and they should not owe you.

It's not the government's fault, and sure, they don't owe people because they have a shitty job, but that doesn't mean the government can't help out people less fortunate. Those people are part of society too. In fact I'd wager that you rely on their work more than most other people.

Quote:If you get bad grades in school, it's not the governments fault and they don't owe you a degree.

I don't think anyone said the government should owe anyone a degree. Degrees, however, are optional. Health isn't. You can go through your entire life without getting a degree. Most people can't have a full life without healthcare. There's the difference.

Quote:People should be accountable for their actions, not demanding assistance for something they can't control.

That's the problem though, for a lot of people, their actions don't have an affect on their health. People are born with hereditary diseases, and people develop illnesses later in life through no fault of their own.

Quote:Hurricanes are out of anyone's control, tornados, even taking a dump is out of our voluntary control. You don't see me blaming the government because I take a shit every morning.

You taking a shit every morning doesn't affect your life in a negative way; in fact if you weren't shitting you would need medical attention. Hurricanes and tornados however can affect a great many people in a negative way, and the government works on local, state, and federal levels to help out in those situations. Like it or not, your tax dollars go towards helping people when there is a crisis like a hurricane, and that's a good thing, because those people contribute back to society when they are rescued and alive and well, not when they are abandoned and left to die.

This isn't about blaming the government, this is about taking responsibility for society in general. Society functions best when the people in society are looked after, and that happens best when the government pays for healthcare, because it means that regardless of your financial situation, you can get treatment for conditions that aren't your fault, and not face a ridiculous bill at the end which you may never pay off.

Americans can continue to pretend that private healthcare systems work, but the universal healthcare experiment has been tried and tested in a great many countries now, and the results can't just be denied over and over. The people and even the governments spend less money on healthcare when it's universal.

If I'm walking down the street and see a guy screaming in pain from a broken leg, I stop and help. It's the humane thing to do.

Socialized medicine is simply.delegating that sense of the humane to the government, given that it's got a broader set of capabilities and is better able to restrain costs.

I don't mind paying taxes to help people get medical care, because it's humane. And on a practical level, it's an investment in the nation's health, in more ways than one.
