MURRYSVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A 16-year-old armed with two knives went on a stabbing and slashing spree at a high school near Pittsburgh on Wednesday, leaving 20 people injured, including a school police officer who eventually subdued him with the help of an assistant principal, authorities said.

An aspiring TV producer, who had worked for Comedy Central’s viral video-based series “Tosh.0,” was accidentally killed on Monday night when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies mistook him for a mad slasher, FOX411 has learned.

A panicky 911 caller told dispatchers a man with a 10-inch butcher knife was threatening people. So when Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies saw a wounded, bloody man rush out of a West Hollywood apartment with someone on his heels, they opened fire.

But the man they gunned down Monday night wasn't the slasher; he was a fleeing hostage.

Mike Moor of Lee's Summit said he'll now be carrying a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun in response to a double-digit amount of shootings along the metro area's highways over the past month. He's decided to carry a firearm as he said he has to drive through the Three Trails Crossing area, also known as the Grandview Triangle, many times daily.

Normally he carries his gun under the seat of his car, now he said he is keeping it even closer. “Anytime I hit the roads over here, I actually stick just underneath my leg,” he said.

We're back up into the 40s in our total count in this latest GunFAIL installment, though a few of the items are considerably older than usual. Numbers held steady, if a bit on the low side, for those who accidentally shot themselves, with just 13 last week. Seven gun-wielding citizens accidentally Second Amendmented their neighbors' homes, for various reasons, while four accidentally fired their weapons while cleaning or repairing them while they were still loaded.

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to spend $50 million this year through his new group Everytown for Gun Safety to counter the influence of the National Rifle Association, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Women, and more particularly moms, will be the key demographic in the outreach to curb gun violence, Everytown for Gun Safety spokeswoman Erika Soto Lamb told CNN.

"You've got to work at it piece by piece," Bloomberg told the newspaper. "One mom and another mom. You've got to wear them down until they finally say, 'Enough.' "

The organization will mimic tactics used by the NRA that have influenced elected officials, from local city councils to Washington.

Everytown has a goal of enrolling an additional 2.5 million members across the country to implement its grass-roots education efforts. The group will focus on 15 states that have liberal gun laws, including Texas, Montana and Indiana. States that have advanced gun control initiatives will also receive attention, including Colorado and Washington.

But influencing those in charge of writing gun policy will be the ultimate goal of the organization, which is also creating a political action committee to elect gun safety candidates to office.

The organization wants to expand background checks, keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, crack down on gun trafficking and educate parents about the safe storage of guns.
