NFL 2016 Pick'em League!
|
Well, chalk one loss up for the week so far.
How many OTs are allowed in pointyball? In soccer, none, unless it's a knockout tourney. What if a tie was a legit result in the NFL? Would it ruin things?

One OT in the regular season. Each team is afforded 1 possession, unless a TD or a safety is scored on the first drive. After the initial two possessions (provided neither team scores, or both teams score with field goals), play continues as normal until the first score by either team (sudden death). If neiter team scores (or both teams score field goals on their initial possessions) and the score is tied at the end of overtime, the game results in a tie. In the post season, the rules are essentially the same except that the sudden death portion of overtime will continue for as many overtime periods as needed for one team to score. The Broncos recently participated in a multiple OT post season game against Baltimore with Manning throwing an interception in the second OT which led to a game winning field goal by Baltimore. No, a tie game finish is in no way catastrophic. It simply counts as 1/2 of a win and 1/2 of a loss, 10-5-1 being 1/2 game better than 10-6
