"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

Me too, it's silly, but sometimes there is some more sophisticated humor. My son and I love it.

I think the color values in this first one are are really rich.

The last one is such a complex shape and interesting for that alone. You got such nice focus on the foreground. Can't help but thinking more light would have helped though.

I played with some settings in post. I try not to do that, but it just wasn't doing what I wanted to in-camera.

You think? I would have thought more light would have over-exposed it. What I don't like is how tight the DoF is - the shape deserved more.

I'm so ignorant of what is possible to do with a camera but I have opinions up the kazoo of what I like in photographs. I'm mostly a light junky. But I do like when the focus is more sustained at different depths. Do you know how to do that on purpose?

I put together another gallery devoted to foliage with interesting textural qualities like that last one of yours. For what its worth:

I wonder if any of these illustrate the sort of DoF you would've preferred.

Using the aperture on a camera will give you wider or closer focus.

Adjust the focal range. If you have an SLR you'll see it along the rim of the lens. The higher the number the greater the depth of field. F22 is a deep depth of field (virtually everything is in focus). F8 is very shallow (even the same object may be partly in partly out of focus). What you are doing is expanding F8 and contracting F22 the aperture.

We recently regaled ourselves with an f/1.8 lens. That's so much fun, if that's the effect one is going for of course.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I haven't messed with it much, but there are photo processing programs including GIMP (shareware) which will let you create a shallow depth of field after you have already taken the photo. http://www.photoventure.com/2013/06/14/f...-of-field/
