Well now all my hopes have been dashed. :

Being an Alaskan, I assume you know best so I'll have to take you at your word. But they do make it look really good. At least the children are handy and inventive even.

I do not want to even imagine getting firewood without a chainsaw...

Most 'bush alaskans' have modern amenities in some form or another. The people least likely to have such would be athabaskans and inuits, and even then: they're typically well enough connected to have guns.

I live in one of the more connected areas of alaska (kenai peninsula), and the documentary family on the discovery channel (think there are a couple of them actually, but whatever) live in HOMER for gods' sake... This is homer, btw:



Reality TV always has a behind-the-scenes. The one documentary family I'm really aware of, the one with the damn fishing boat? If I'm not mistaken, they fish across the cook inlet from me... not for subsistence so much as for television prescence.

There was also that ridiculous fucking shit where they illegally shot a brown bear from a helicopter, or was that a different documentary family-GOD i just don't know.
