Are we all playing one giant videogame?

Are we all playing one giant videogame?
Are we living in one giant video game? It was reported that Elon Musk and his brother discuss about it frequently, but are there really no arguments to debunk this? Let me try to make an experiment with asking questions that bothers me about this theory and then try to reason with it:

One of the most obvious questions is why would anyone play a game, like our world, since it's so boring for most of us that people take drugs, alcohol, sugar etc. to draw away the mundane? Maybe that's the point of game to make it more fun, to become more fun person - but who would that be? A CEO of some large company? A pilot, but do pilots really have that much fun? Maybe it's like "Sims" but then I guess one of the fun sides of "Sims" is that you know it's fake and you can have all those stuff you can't as a real person - but maybe not for all people, I don't really know since I don't play "Sims".
But what about people that get born retarded, bound to the wheelchair with minimal motoric skills? Are you telling me someone would play that as well? Maybe their motif would be to make people who really got into this game sad, like the parents of that person. Maybe they agreed in their world "Look I'll play this game for 35 years and then you enter it and you come in as my retarded son. I just want to see how I'll behave and I really want to battle with sadness and try to make something out of it." Maybe these people are living such cushy life that they want to see what kind of character they would have, since their undemanding life robs them of any character so they want to see if they would turn to crime or trying to maintain a legal job and pay their mortgage over few decades...

Other thing is why would we not remember who we are in the "real world" and how could they possibly erase this? Maybe they use something to block the pathways in their brain.
What this game would also tell us is that people who do play this are not only masochists, but live very long as well since they can afford to lose few decades of their life on, let's face it shitty, game like this.
The last thing that bothers me about this idea is the vastness of people who play this game. There are 7.3 billion people here so their world must be really big if only small fraction plays this game and most of them (us) play it really bad: no drinkable water, no prospects, living in polluted areas...
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
