I think the death penalty should only be used in circumstances where there is proof that the person is 100% guilty, so I can see it from the point of view of those saying too many innocents are dying too. I am also of the opinion that lethal injection should be scrapped altogether, bullets are cheap and effective enough to do the job and probably less painful.
Capital punishment was unfortunately abolished here in 1965 (1973 in Northern Ireland) for murder, and although unused, I think it remained a punishment for certain offences such as treason before being completely abolished in 1998. It should be brought back but there's absolutely no chance of that happening now.
