And the Catholic position is no less circular. Believe in the authenticity of the Church based on the veracity of the events depicted in the scriptures and believe in the veracity of the events depicted in the scriptures based on the authenticity of the Church. Any appeal to evidence of the Church fathers is only useful if you build on the foundation of the gospels and the entire New Testament's acceptance as inspired and inerrant; and what pray tell would lead one to embrace the New Testament as inspired and inerrant? The presupposition of the authenticity of the Church. Circular reasoning of a different shade.
