Yep, Paul actually addresses the position that the afterlife is allegorical in 1 Cor 15. The person I mentioned could only dodge such passages.
And that is a convincing argument because everyone knows that the bible itself is to be interpreted literally. Read literally, it rules out reading it allegorically. Of course read allegorically, it does no such thing. But so long as everyone is content to stipulate that every word of the bible is literally true, you make a valid point. (Not.)
