Hypothetically speaking, if everyone abolished the death penalty there would likely still be crimes and criminals that made us regret the decision. Similarly those of us who view the death penalty in a favorable light can see how it doesn't quite work as intended in every case. Maybe a middle road. Death for crimes against humanity, imprisonment for the rest. (Two birds one stone...this way we get to execute politicians exclusively).
