Yes, but the Xbox is reasonably cheap compared to keeping and maintaining a good gaming PC. I've been gaming on the Xbox platform for years, first with a normal Xbox, then with a standard Xbox 360, and finally with my Xbox 360 S. All together, the cost of these devices probably totals under £1000 (~$1,500).
A good gaming PC costs about the same (sometimes more), but in the same time frame, you'll probably spend much more on upgrading graphics, etc. In other words, 7 year old tech does not work well with today's games. I doubt very much that you could play Skyrim in all its wonder on graphics cards from 2005. Sure, you could probably play it with the graphics turned down, but what is the point of having a PC gaming rig if you are confined to using crappy graphics?
In short, it's a fucking platform. There are pros and cons of each. I currently have no time (or money) to waste on PC gaming. Xbox gaming is cheap, and it works fine. I don't have any problem with PC gamers; I just have problems with PC gamers who have a problem with my choice not to waste my money on something I wouldn't use that often.
