I just bought all the major components:

Intel i7-4790k Quad Core 4.0 Ghz,
asRock Extreme6 z97 chipset MB
16 GB Corsair Vengeance Red DDR3 Ram (11-11-11-9 Cas Latency) <--- This will be doubled up later
2TB HGST 7200 rpm 3.5" HDD <--- later expanded
128GB m.2 PCIe Samsung SSD (boot memory) (10 GB/sec read)

Corsair 500W PSU
BD-RW drive
Mid ATX Tower Chassis

I'm not a gamer, so I'm going to use the onboard audio/video chipset for now.

Total cost: $990

I had to build my "new rig" by shoving the insides of my old rig back inside the casing where it was starting to poke out. At least I still have Windows 7.
