Why pray to, and worship something you consider metaphor? Why choose Christianity over atheism if you already know the whole thing is bollocks?

It's not bollocks. It's metaphor. Aesop's Fables aren't bollocks. Religion is culture. To be honest, it's probably because I've been an altar boy since I was 5 and I'm still at it. It's something my family has done for centuries. There is no reason not to go to church on Sunday. I think it's different if you were brought up in a fundy family where believing in the wretched thing is a must. And when you stop believing, all hell breaks lose like one chap is asking in AF if he should tell his parents. In my family, believing is no big deal. My Mum doesn't believe either. Same with my dad. If I really didn't want to go to church or be an altar boy, I could always tell my parents my wishes. If I gave the reason it's because I don't believe in a God being, my parents would be puzzled. Why would not believing in a supernatural being stop a person from going to church? But if I really didn't want to go, they'd find it odd but they wouldn't object. It's like I have refused to go to my favourite restaurant. My Mum will probably think something has happened in church like I was molested or something but then we aren't RCs. Haha.

But of course they'd expect me to be responsible. I'd have to tell the vicar and give him notice to get another altar boy in my place.

Well, I don't get it, but I applaud your ability to justify it with yourself.
