Why is evolution not accepted as a fact? When people say "it's just a theory", I don't really understand how, considering all the evidence.
What we know about evolution is WHAT it achieves. We know almost nothing about HOW. There are competing theories, and all have been rigorously tested, and yet we still haven't figured out what actually drives Evolution and causes it to "work".
In a sense belief in Evolution is as sensible as belief in cold-fusion. If you actually saw cold fusion happening then you might want to believe it, otherwise it is plainly absurd. Well, we've observed that evolution happens, but that's it. We still have no idea why it happens at the pace that it does and how it does it.
I have proposed many times that the mechanism that drives evolution is proteins and enzymes and switching and mixing. Although why it should work is beyond me.

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
