The dinosaurs may have disappeared for glaciation or other reasons but that does not mean that the linear evolution is interrupted.
Their consciousness will carry on in some other form of life so the linear evolution continue unabated.

Firstly glaciers did not kill the Dinosaurs a huge rock falling from space did. This put an end to that line of completely. Only the branch of dinosaurs that had already evolved into birds survived.
Evolution does not work how you think it does.
You seem to think it is a steady advance towards some goal. i get it, a lot of people, normally believers in some faith, make that mistake.
But the truth is evolution only means that it favours animals that are better fitted to the environment that they are in at the time.
If you are talking about some linear process that builds towards an end then you are not talking about biological evolution.
In fact you would be talking bollocks.
