We talked about everything. Boys and sex, drugs and what they did both good and bad and alcohol both good and bad. When they went out with a boy, I had to meet them and talk to them. Not to intimidate them, but I wanted to know who my daughter was choosing to hang out with. Every single boy for both of them were very nice people. I am not stupid though, they were teenage boys and I am sure that things went on that I would rather not think about. But that is why we had the discussion about safe sex prior to them dating. I did not encourage them to be indiscriminate but I wanted them to be protected.
Yes, my son went through the same discussion. The only difference was I made sure he understood, a girl should be respected and treated as such.
So far I have 3 well adjusted kids. I am certain they will continue to make wise decisions.
This is great, teaching sex and the responsibilities that go along with it are important and the schools need to stay out of such things and the parents need to step up and raise their children. I congratulate you on a experience well done.
There is more than one thing about not having sex that's a benefit to marriage, the obvious doesn't need stated.
However the not so obvious is quite important, comparing ones wife or husband to a former partner, not vocally, in one's thoughts and anyone who has had sex before marriage has done this, you can say you haven't but that wouldn't be true would it. Emotions have a way of over riding good senses. Enough of this kind of thing can and will destroy a marriage.

GC, I was not exactly pure when I met my husband and I promise I don't compare him to other men and I honestly don't believe that he compares me to anyone else either. Of course, if there is something that we want sexually, we discuss it so there really isn't much reason for comparisons.
I had a cousin who broke up with her husband because she felt she married too young and he was the only man she ever dated. The grass is greener on the other side syndrome happens in virgins as well as nonvirgins.
