Do you really think Jesus was telling us to hate our mother and father? People use hyperbole every day. When I say I hate green peas, I don't really mean I hate them. God commanded us to honor our father and mother and love our neighbor. Why would he then turn around and say we must hate our parents? What he is saying is that we mustn't put anything before God. If it comes to a point of obeying our parents or God, we must obey God
