I don't know. Most humans believe in religion without every thinking about it. They simply believe from indoctrination. At least he has taken steps to discuss religion. That merits some respect.
As for his hate towards Atheists, it's obviously partially due to what his religion teaches regarding them and partially due to his own anecdotal experience with a very limited group of people (ie. into drugs, etc).
But this is true of everyone partially. We make judgements based on our beliefs of what is right or wrong, and our limited anecdotal experience, and generalize. I don't know, maybe this is from my upbringing in hadiths (make 70 excuses for your brother, and if you can't think of any excuse, say perhaps you don't know one - Prophet Mohammad).
