So our march wasn't a glamorous affair; we didn't have celebrities giving rousing speeches and it rained damn near the entire time, but this is how we do it up in Rip City.
I've been downtown for half marathons and been lined up in the streets with masses of people but this was a crushingly huge crowd. People lined the whole of Waterfront Park, from the railing along the river all the way across Naito Parkway and spilling down the side streets. Many bridges were closed and filled with people overlooking Naito Pkwy. Crowds of people milling around the streets with signs, many took up the stairways of the parking garages overlooking the march and held up their signs and chanted from above.
The local news reports that there was possibly 100,000 people marching in downtown Portland today, one of the largest single gatherings PDX has ever seen.
Do I believe it?
Yes, I do.*
Many hilarious signs.
A really incredible event to have participated in, especially as a non-activist who doesn't regularly attend rallies, marches or protests of any sort.
I am pleased to report that the entire event remained peaceful.
*initial estimates were around 35k, which personally seems more reasonable, but I would really like Trump to think it was 100k
